‘Merica food: Ice cream

Our trip through America’s finest foods ends where most of our meals (should) end: ice cream. Be sure to stop by any of our favorite places for gelato, ice cream, sorbet, and even popsicles during your 4th of July celebrations. Where’s your favorite place to get ice cream in Richmond?

Located in Carytown, Bev’s has been making homemade ice cream in Richmond since 1998 and has a huge variety of flavors including banana walnut, sweet corn, coconut lime, PB chip, chocolate orange, honey and lemon (yum!). Grab a scoop of your favorite (or experimental) flavor, take a walk around Carytown, and enjoy some superb summer weather and dessert.


If you’ve never true italian gelato artigianale, head on over to DeLuca Gelato, our favorite place to get gelato and sorbetto in the city. DeLuca’s family owned gelateria pasteurizes their own gelato mix and makes all of their desserts in-house–you can even watch them mix the gelato fresh while you dive into your own favorite flavor! Gelato has less fat than most American ice creams, with much more flavor and thickness so it’s a perfect summer treat. If you’re lactose intolerant or looking for a non-dairy frozen treat, their frozen sorbetto is made with real fruit (no corn syrup in ANY gelatos and sorbettos) and most flavors are fat free.


If you’re looking for a super easy and fun place to take your family for frozen treats this season, be sure to take them to Sweet 95. With flavors that vary weekly, this cash-only ice cream parlor next to Kitchen 64 has a huge outdoor patio so you can grab your ice cream and enjoy the summer afternoon. Currently serving coconut chai, strawberry basil, pineapple mint, Thai coffee, and now Pedal Pops Popsicles.
